  • Metro 51Metro 52Metro 53Metro 54

Amsterdam's main railway station, opened in 1889, stands on artificial islands in the IJ. The metro lines 51, 53 and 54 terminate here and line 52 passes deep beneath the station, while free ferries to Amsterdam-Noord leave from the waterfront behind it.

  • Metro 51Metro 53Metro 54

The square above the station is dominated by De Waag, a fifteenth-century city gate later used as a weigh house. Zeedijk, with its Chinese restaurants and a Buddhist temple, runs north from the square towards Centraal Station.

  • Metro 51Metro 53Metro 54

The square hosts a long-running flea market on most days except Sunday. The Rembrandt House Museum is across the street, and the Stopera building on the Amstel combines the city hall with the Dutch National Opera and Ballet.

  • Metro 51Metro 53Metro 54

The station lies under the busy square where Weesperstraat crosses Sarphatistraat on the edge of the canal belt. The Royal Theatre Carré, built in the nineteenth century as a circus building on the Amstel, is a short walk west.

  • Metro 51Metro 53Metro 54

This railway station from 1939 connects intercity and regional trains with metro lines 51, 53 and 54. The Amstel river flows just west of the station, with a riverside path leading towards the city centre.

  • Metro 52

Opened with the North-South line in 2018, the station lies under a broad street that was once a channel of the Amstel. Dam Square and the Royal Palace are a few minutes' walk north, and the Kalverstraat shopping street runs parallel to the west.

  • Metro 52

This North-South line station sits in the southern canal belt, a UNESCO World Heritage area of seventeenth-century canal houses. The Rijksmuseum and the Museumplein are within walking distance to the south-west.

  • Metro 52

The station serves De Pijp, a dense nineteenth-century neighbourhood of narrow streets and small restaurants. The Albert Cuyp Market, one of the city's best-known street markets, runs a short walk away, and the former Heineken brewery on Stadhouderskade is nearby.

  • Metro 52

The closest stop to the main entrance of the RAI, Amsterdam's large exhibition and congress centre. The Beatrixpark, with its pond and walking paths, lies to the west of the complex.

  • Metro 50Metro 51Metro 52

The southern terminus of line 52 is also a stop on lines 50 and 51 and a busy railway station with direct trains to Schiphol. It stands at the heart of the Zuidas business district, among office towers, law firms and bank headquarters.

  • Metro 50Metro 51

This combined railway and metro station lies at the eastern side of the RAI exhibition grounds, beside the A10 ring motorway. It is a convenient transfer between trains and lines 50 and 51 in the south of the city.

  • Metro 50Metro 54

The station serves the Johan Cruijff ArenA, home of AFC Ajax, as well as the Ziggo Dome and AFAS Live concert halls. A broad passage under the tracks links the stadium side with the shops and housing of the Bijlmermeer.

  • Metro 52

The northern terminus of line 52 lies at Buikslotermeerplein, with a shopping centre and a large bus station. Buses from here continue into the Waterland countryside and to villages such as Broek in Waterland and Volendam.

  • Metro 52

The station is named after the adjoining Noorderpark, created by joining two older parks on either side of the North Holland Canal. It is a quiet stop in Amsterdam-Noord, a short metro ride from Centraal Station.

  • Metro 50Metro 51

A major rail junction in the west of the city, where trains towards Haarlem, Zaandam and Schiphol meet metro lines 50 and 51. The surrounding Teleport area is a district of offices and hotels.

  • Metro 50Metro 51

The western terminus of lines 50 and 51 lies in a business park north of Sloterdijk. It is mostly used by commuters working in the surrounding offices.

  • Metro 50Metro 51

This station on the western ring line connects the metro with trains and with trams running along the Cornelis Lelylaan. It serves Amsterdam Nieuw-West, the post-war garden city districts laid out on the city's western side.

  • Metro 50Metro 54

Two railway lines cross here on different levels, and metro lines 50 and 54 call at the same station. It is one of the main transfer points between the metro and national trains in the south-east of the city.

  • Metro 50Metro 54

The station serves the AMC location of Amsterdam UMC, one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands. Trains and metro lines 50 and 54 share the elevated station.

  • Metro 53

The terminus of line 53 lies beside the Gaasperpark, a large park around a lake that hosted the Floriade horticultural exhibition in 1982. The lake is used for swimming and sailing, and a campsite lies within the park.

  • Metro 50Metro 53Metro 54

An elevated junction where the line towards Gaasperplas separates from the line to Gein. Metro lines 50, 53 and 54 all serve the station, making it a convenient place to change direction in the south-east.

  • Metro 50Metro 54

The south-eastern terminus of lines 50 and 54 lies in a residential part of Zuidoost. The open polder landscape along the Gein river begins just beyond the edge of the neighbourhood.
