U1, U2 and U4 meet at this major interchange, where Otto Wagner's green and gold pavilions of the old city railway still stand on the square. The Karlskirche, the Musikverein and the State Opera are each a few minutes away, and the Naschmarkt begins just to the south-west.

  • U1U4

U1 and U4 meet on the edge of the old town beside the Danube Canal. Saint Rupert's Church, often called the oldest church in Vienna, and the lanes of the Bermuda Triangle bar quarter are a few minutes up the slope.

  • U2

The U2 station is behind the neo-Gothic City Hall, whose square in front hosts seasonal events throughout the year. The Burgtheater faces the City Hall across the Ringstraße, and the Parliament is a short walk to the south.

U3 and U4 meet here at the Wien Mitte station, which also has S-Bahn trains and the City Airport Train to Vienna Airport. The Hundertwasser House, a colourful apartment block, is roughly a kilometre to the east.

  • U4

This U4 station is the closest stop to Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main gate is a few minutes' walk away, and the Gloriette stands on the hill at the far end of the gardens.

  • U4

Hietzing station is near the western entrance to the Schönbrunn palace park and to Tiergarten Schönbrunn, founded in 1752 and the oldest zoo still in operation. Otto Wagner's court pavilion, built for the emperor's use, stands beside the line.

  • U3U6

  • U1

Vienna's main railway station, opened in the 2010s, links U1 with long-distance, regional and S-Bahn trains. The Belvedere palace and its gardens are about ten minutes' walk to the north.

  • U3

The U3 station lies under Mariahilfer Straße, where a long section has been turned into a shared street with little traffic. The Haus des Meeres aquarium, inside a former flak tower, is a short walk to the south.

  • U1
